The annual Easter Bonnet parade was in full force this year after a two year absence because of Covid-19. It was a mass of humanity with all kinds of costumes and bonnets displaying the best of New York creativity. At noon, thousands of people assembled on 5th Avenue near St. Patrick’s Cathedral to keep a more than a hundred and fifty year old tradition alive and well. The origins go back to the Civil War, when wealthy people “dressed to the nines” and promenaded down 5th Avenue to show off the latest fashion in clothing. The women would wear large hats with plumed feathers or flowers. Over the years, it has transformed into a fashion show of clothes, hats and bonnets for everybody to enjoy. There were some amazing outfits. I hope you enjoy the photo roll.
