Every end of October for the last 31 years (with the exception of last years being virtual) dog’s have walked their owners to the Tompkins Square Park Doggie Halloween Parade. The parade has become so popular, it has been moved from Tompkins Square Park to the Amphitheater at the East River Park to accommodate the hundreds of contestants and dog lovers from all walks of life. People came as far as North Carolina and Canada to become part of the largest doggie Halloween costume parade in the nation. This year had possibly the largest turnout ever with Mother Nature providing a warmer day for all to enjoy. A panel of judges including local CBSNews reporter Jenna DeAngelis had the task of “ruffing” it to pick out finalists of the hundreds of clever and creative costumes. Host Stephanie Simon was woofing it up with the contestants and made the event run smoothly. New Yorkers are some of the most creative people in the country and it definitely showed with lots of wagging tails to prove it. I hope you enjoy the pictures of the event as much as I had taking them.
